Lake Wilcox Park – Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada [ONTARIO TRAVEL SERIES]

0

Hello everyone! Welcome to this special “Ontario Travel Series” BLOG! The novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has impacted everyone of us. Although there are many negative things happened during this COVID-19 crisis, it’s important we stay strong, stay positive and continue to live our lives to the fullest while doing our part to help flatten the curve.

Since the City of Toronto and Province of Ontario have entered Phase 2 of the re-opening, I have decided that it’s time for me to be On the MOVE again (however, in a safe and responsible fashion). Although we are allowed to go outside, it’s imperative we continue to abide the city bylaws and health officials guidelines.

In this “Ontario Travel Series” BLOG, let me show you where this cool place is located and perhaps it’s a place that you and your loved ones may consider in exploring.

Address: 55 Olde Bayview Ave, Richmond Hill, ON L4E 3C8
Phone: (905) 771-8800

Driving Time: 40 minutes
(Approximately based on Google Maps starting from Dundas Square as the reference point)

Crowd Level: 5/10 (1 being empty to 10 being super crowded)
During our visit, there were people but not crowded at all. Most of the time we didn’t see anyone walking towards us. Even when it did, people were keeping physical distancing and spreading apart. However, certain parts of the lakefront near the entrance turning circle was slightly crowded but it was still acceptable.

Parking Availability: There are numerous parking lots around the entire park areas, including parking spots at the community centre. However, starting this month (July 2020), pay parking for non-residents begin. Any Richmond Hill residents can click this site to apply for a parking permit that allows them to park in the area for FREE.

NOTE: The driving time, crowd level & parking availability are based on that particular day and time that I visited the park. All factors can vary, so please use this as a reference guide only.

NOTE: Launching personal water crafts, including kayaks and canoes, is now permitted directly north of the canoe club. Please also note that there is no formal launch site or ramp exist at the park. Those who launches should park in a designated parking spot and carry their craft to the waters edge.

Lake Wilcox Park is a beautiful place stretching from Bayview Avenue and Stouffville Road. The park consists of a spacious area. It has the Wilcox Lake. A nice stretch of walking space along the lake front. This park has many things to do. There is an Oak Ridges Community Centre, a skateboard park, a water park for kids to have fun and cool down. As I walked, there were also special areas where people can set up their tents, BBQ and enjoying good times with their families.

There is also a parkette called “Jessie Vanek Park” that connects the Lake Wilcox Park to the community centre.

While we were strolling the park, we felt very peaceful and calm. Many people were abiding physical distancing. There were signs along the park to remind people to respect other people and maintain physical distancing.
