I stumbled at this plaza for the 1st time as I am in the area and decided to roam around to decide where to grab lunch as I have an appointment afterwards at a nearby office building.
七爺清湯腩 (Uncle 7) Beefing with 7 Hong Kong Style Cuisine is not your usual restaurant as its windows were plastered with colourful posters that you can’t even peek inside. In fact, I first thought this place was closed down or under renovation. Just as I was about to walk passed Uncle 7, someone from inside push the door open, that’s when I realized Uncle 7 is open for business.
As I walked in, I was super impressed, it feels like you travel back in time to Hong Kong (I was born in HK so I still had some visual memories of HK back in the days), there were wall paper showcasing all the familiar subway stations, the folding chairs, folding tables, there were signage of old HK classic movies on the wall.
I decided to give this place a try. The menu features comfort Hong Kong Style beef briskets, beef intestines, beef variety of organs, fish ball noodles, rice rolls, all the familiar HK food options. Overall, this place gave us our childhood memories of HK and it brought back nostalgic experiences.
I ordered the Signature Beef Brisket soup noodles in Ho Fun. When it came, the broth was flavourful, clean and clear, it’s not too saucy, which is exactly what I prefer. Green onions on the broth is so KEY to a bowl of soup noodles. The beef brisket were in thick slices, super tender, clean and the meat was fresh and nicely made.
I had an amazing experience and I came back for 2nd time after 2 weeks and this time, I ordered the same signature beef brisket but this time, I ordered egg noodles. To my surprise, it was amazing!
The egg noodles were thin, bouncy, chewy in al dente, so good! So many other places will serve crappy egg noodles where it would be soggy by the time it gets to you. But not a Uncle 7.
Moreover, they provided the red vinegar and hot spicy chill flakes sauce, both important condiments for a bowl of Chinese soup noodles. Even the dining tables had “Dominoes – 骨牌” or “Mahjong – 麻將“, recreational games very popular in HK. You could tell how much thoughts the owners put in this restaurant layout and design.
Although this Signature Beef Brisket soup noodles serve in 2 sizes, (small at $9.99 CDN + tax) and large at $11.99 CDN + tax), I honestly don’t know the difference in size as I always ordered large.
The price are ok within reason at $11.99 but it’s worth it as it’s high quality bowl of soup noodles that is unforgettable. I do get full after indulging it but would definitely will get hungry a few hours later. Portion is reasonable but not the biggest portion but you are here for the quality and the vibe.
Overall, Uncle 7 has great vibes! and I highly recommended.
