Time flies! 2025 marks the 35th year of Mazda MX-5 existed on this planet. Congrats to Mazda for building such a great car with tradition, heritage with style.

Back in 1990, the media and customers were skeptical of a Japanese car maker who wanted to build a 2-seater convertible. Peeps were not sure if Mazda can pull it off. Fast track 35 years later, I can assure you Mazda surely knows how to build a sports car with great handling, fun-to-drive convertible.

I am super grateful and thankful of the designer and engineering team who created MX-5, coz I really like this car! This is a pocket-rocket, super fun-to-drive and it’s what every car enthusiast appreciates.

As many automotive companies stop building sports cars or sedans in recent years and just focusing on building SUVs or electric vehicles (EV), it is truly amazing to see Mazda continues to build the MX-5 while providing manual transmission as an option.

MX-5 lets the driver the freedom to truly enjoying driving on twisty roads. It comes with a natural aspired 2.0L engine, pumping 181 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. It does not use any turbo addictive. It offers manual gearbox. It still has a handbrake. A rare 2-seater with gas engine powered convertible. Keeping it basic allows drivers such as myself to truly appreciate what a ride this is, even after 35 years later!

For 2025, Mazda has launched a special 35th Anniversary Mazda MX-5 soft top. It comes with one single trim only in limited quantity. I do not know the exact number of 35th Anniversary production, but the tester that I got to test drive for a week from Mazda Canada is listed as #1695 on the left bottom door with an emblem to showcase for it.

Here are some special features ONLY found in this 35th Anniversary Mazda MX-5 Soft Top:

– Limited quantity of 35th Anniversary Mazda MX-5 being built (only 300 units being allocated for USA).

– Soft top version only. There are no RF version.

– Only manual gearbox are offered.

– Comes with Artisan Red Metallic paint as the only exterior option choice.

– ONLY Sports Tan Nappa leather interior.

– Very distinctive beige roof top material.

– Emblem located on the left side door showing the limited edition #, in this case, it is #1695 on this tester from Mazda Canada.

– 35th Anniversary Emblem on the headrest of both chairs.

– Special 17 inch rim design.

Personally, this is not the colour of my choice, as I always prefer something more flashy. However, I do understand why Mazda launches this Artisan Red Metallic as back in the 90s, they did use such similar burgundy colour on the MX-5.

In this case, my top 3 favourite colours on this MX-5 of all top are the following:

  1. Soul Red Metallic
  2. Muddy Grey
  3. White

This Artisan Red Metallic clearly will be timeless and I am sure many buyers would luv it. It just not my cup of tea. But I am sure people will appreciate the nice blend of Artisan Red exterior coupled with the beige Nappa leather interior with a beige roof top. It is a very nice combination.

If you ask me, the 30th Anniversary of the bright orange MX-5 is more my cup of tea.

But one thing for certain, Mazda designers have something special going on. With many Mazda models, many of them never gets old, it is timeless. For example, this MX-5 has been on the market since 2015, but yet it still looks so good. Another Mazda CX-5, the mid-size SUV, since 2015, til this date, it still looking super nice. It is truly special.
