From Halifax Airport (YHZ) to Toronto Pearson (YYZ) with Porter Airlines [PORTER TRAVEL SERIES]

It was an amazing experience for MoKenny & I flying with Porter Airlines on its inaugural flight from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to Halifax Airport (YHZ). After having so much fun exploring Halifax, eating, drinking, roaming and sightseeing Downtown Halifax, it was time to fly home.

We were flying back from Halifax to Toronto with Porter Airlines once again on its new Embraer E-195-E2 jet from Halifax Stanfield Airport (YHZ) to Toronto Pearson (YYZ).

We took an Uber ride from Downtown Halifax to Stanfield Halifax Airport, it was early in the morning on a weekday so the traffic wasn’t so bad, it took about 30 minutes for the ride. The airport is located in the remote area north of Downtown Halifax or you would either need Uber/Taxi or have family/friends to drop you off. The Uber ride was about $55 CDN which was alright.

The moment we entered the airport terminal, we spotted Porter Airlines counter area. It was located beside Flair and Lynx airlines. You could spot the PorterReserve signage and kiosks and human beings there to help you check-in your luggage.

Since MoKenny & I both don’t have anything to check-in and we already checked-in online the day prior, we went straight to the security control. The line wasn’t too long as there were about 15 people ahead of us, so it was easy task to get pass all the security line.

We noticed Tim Hortons and a restaurant was opened, while other liquor stores and retail stores were still close at 7:00 AM. As we walked further down the terminal, we spotted the Porter plane already parked at the gate.

This Halifax Stanfield Airport isn’t super big, so it’s less walking and much easier to navigate than some bigger airports. And this airport is modern, clean, bright and inviting.

MoVernie TIP: I know many of us, including myself have a bucket list of buying lobsters at the airport and fly them on board with the flight back to Toronto. However, timing is everything as the Clearwater seafood store only opens at 10:00 AM daily. Both times I was in Halifax, my flights departed at 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM respectively, so I wasn’t able to purchase the lobsters and bring them back. So….if you don’t want to be disappointed and you really care about buying lobsters and bring them on the plane, I recommend you to book a flight that departs after 10:00 AM so you can enjoy the experience.

As we stood outside the Clearwater store, we could see the big lobster tank. There were probably over 100 lobsters in the tank for customers to purchase. Hopefully, next time, I got to buy some and bring it back to fulfill my bucket list.

Our flight was on time and as a PorterReserve, we had priority boarding.

Once again, we were seating at Row 1, where the first 4 rows were dedicated to PorterReserve passenger. Only this time, MoKenny was sitting at the window side and I got to experience aisle.

As the flight went up in the air, the flight attendants began to serve us snack. MoKenny ordered a cup of water and a cup of apple juice. Meanwhile, I ordered a cup of water and a glass of red wine. Yes, early 7:00 AM in the morning, they did serve wine! Don’t judge me, I just wanted to experience drinking wine early in the morning. LOL

After about 2 hour flight, we had  landed in Toronto Pearson. Overall, the Porter flight was smooth, on time and it was a very pleasant experience. I highly recommend anyone to choose Porter whenever they are travelling.

I am very happy that Porter is continuing to grow, expand its routes, providing passengers more flight options to fly either out of Billy Bishop or Toronto Pearson. Imagine you have a choice to fly out of Toronto Pearson and fly home into Billy Bishop. You can mix and match and decide which Toronto airport you would like to fly in-and-out to. It’s a great option to have.

The inaugural return flight experience was provided by Porter Airlines. However, as always, the opinions expressed in this post is entirely my own.
