Saint Pierre – TV Series on CBC – Starring Allan Hawco & Joséphine Jobert

In recent weeks, I have been seeing many advertisements and posters throughout the city about this new TV show called “Saint Pierre” on CBC. Quite honestly, it sounds interesting and at first glance, I thought “Saint Pierre” is the name of the main character, starring Allan Hawco, Joséphine Jobert and James Purefoy. As you know, there are many shows that named after the main characters such as Hudson & Rex or Will Trent, just to name a few.

But to my surprise, once I received an invite from The Taro Group about a attending a screening of this show that I realized Saint Pierre is actually an island located on the East Coast of Canada.

As I dig deeper, Saint Pierre is actually an island owned and governed by France. Yes, France from Europe. I have been living in Canada for 30+ years and I have never heard of this destination. Even when I took geography class in public or high school, our teachers never mentioned this island.

Now, it got me intrigued and wanted to learn more about this island. Apparently, it’s located very close to Newfoundland, you just need to take a 1.5 hour ferry ride from Saint John, Newfoundland and you will get to this island currently habited by around 6000 people.

Synopsis: Saint Pierre – After exposing corruption, a Newfoundland cop is exiled to French islands where he teams up with a headstrong deputy to solve baffling crimes beyond the idyllic locale’s facade.

After watching the first episode of Saint Pierre at the special screening at the Scotiabank Theatre, I am interested to watch more episodes. It’s easy to pickup and easy to watch. I personally feel there are similarities in the style of this show with Hudson & Rex (minus the popo dog). But it’s nice to watch story plots about island or small town such as Newfoundland and Saint Pierre.

Extra brownie points for the production team to showcase Saint Pierre, the show indirectly shine a spotlight to this island named “Saint Pierre”. Next time I am visiting the East Coast, I would want to visit Saint Pierre.

Special shoutout to Taro Group for having us to the screening event for Saint Pierre.
