Many of you may or may not heard of ZIPAIR before. ZIPAIR is a Japanese low-cost carrier offering a budget-friendly, customizable travel experience, flying routes to Asia and North America. This airline’s parent company is a subsidiary of Japan Airlines (JAL), a well-known and proven airline in the world.
ZIPAIR flight options is very simplistic, it offers 2 seating choices.
1) Economy or 2) ZIP Full-Flat.
So….which seating plan should you choose? Well…lots of factors are involved when it comes to which seating choice to choose from. It all comes down to what’s your preference? Do you want to spend money or you just want a seat to get from point A to point B?
I had flown with ZIPAIR 4 times in the past 2.5 years, and I tried both economy and ZIP Full-Flat options, I have to say that…both options fulfilled my needs.
For me, one of the biggest draw flying with ZIPAIR is how cheap it is when flying economy from Vancouver, Canada to Tokyo, Japan. Anytime when you want to fly from Toronto or any parts of Canada to Asia, there are very limited flight options and flight usually is expensive. Whether it’s economy, premium economy or business class, many airlines pricing are very pricey especially flying from North America to Asia.
Depending on the time of the year when you fly with ZIPAIR, flight pricing are relatively very cheap. For example, economy seat flying from Vancouver to Tokyo can range as low as $350 CDN + tax to $550 CDN one way. This is a fraction of what other airlines are charging that could range from $1000 CDN + tax one way.
Depending on the destination you are travelling with ZIPAIR, the ZIP Full-Flat usually cost about $1500-$2000 CDN depending on the month of the year, compared to other airlines flight options, ZIP Full-Flat is definitely way cheaper if not similar. For example, full flat-bed with Air Canada or West Jet can range upwards of $3000-$4000+ CDN, if it’s Premium Economy (not flat bed but wider space and more leg room), it’s about $2200-$2500+ CDN from the aforementioned airlines.
Basically, for similar pricing, you get a full flat-bed flying with ZIPAIR but you only get Premium Economy with Air Canada or WestJet.
MoVernie Verdict:
Overall, if you have money to spend and wanted to treat yourself with more comfort and space, then choosing ZIP Full-Flat is a no brainer. You have more space to move around your cabin, you can stretch your legs, there are various seating positions by using the control panel and it fulfills your needs. Tons of storage space to put your personal items.
However, if you don’t really care about the space and you just want to go from point A to point B as cheap as possible, then the ZIPAIR economy seat would be a perfect fit for you. It’s simple, it’s easy and it’s just basic but it gets the job done.
I remembered one time, I paid $320 CDN + tax flying from Vancouver to Tokyo with ZIPAIR, even paying the extra $75 CDN for my checked luggage one-way, $320 + $75 CDN was still way cheaper than flying with other airlines. I couldn’t believe that it’s possible to fly to Asia that costs me way cheaper than some domestic flights flying within Canada.
My flight experience travelling from Tokyo, Japan to Houston, Texas was provided by ZIPAIR. However, as always, the opinions expressed in this post is entirely my own.
