Did you know that Sensoji Buddhist Temple is the oldest and most visited temple in Tokyo? The temple was founded in 628 AD.
The legend of the temple’s founding begins with two brothers fishing in the Sumida River, who found a statue of Kannon (the Bodhisattva of compassion). The brothers took the statue to their village, and after it miraculously cured an illness of one of the villagers, they built a temple there to house the statue.
