As you may know by now, I like to share my fun experiences outside of work to you but my blogs can also be very educational or informative on what’s happening in the social media world.
Have you heard about the “Harlem Shake”? A girl told me a few days ago and I had no clue what she was talking about. At one point, I thought it was some sort of protein, muscle building drinking powder shake but when she said the videos were funny, I decided to investigate.
Basically, this is the next viral trend after the successful “Gangnam Style”. However, Psy’s Gangnam style has some special moves, this “Harlem Shake” has no particular dance moves. Basically, it’s a 30 second video, with recording of people doing silly dance, while playing this particular sound track called “Harlem Shake” by Baauer. People in masks, uniforms, soldiers, firefighters and teenage girls are all recording silly dance videos with it.
The objective involves one person dancing alone, usually wearing a helmet or a mask, while others stay still or carry on their normal day-to-day routines as if they didn’t see anything weird about that lone dancer. Then when the beat of the track drops, there’s an edit in the video and suddenly everyone is on their feet dancing like maniacs who have lost all muscle control and they also change their clothes into wild costumes, etc. Nobody knows how long this viral trend will last but it looks like it ain’t stopping anytime soon.
So…if your sons or daughters or the young onez talk about Harlem Shake, you are now in the loop & you will feel part of the social media buzz. When young peeps realized you know about this “Harlem Shake”, trust me, they will be surprised and amazed about you. Then, you got to buy me a coffee and thank me for it, just kidding LOL.
