Hotel Room – The Hollis Halifax – a DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel – Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada [HALIFAX TRAVEL SERIES]

This is our 1st time staying at The Hollis Halifax – a DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel and we luv everything about this hotel. First of all, our red-eye flight arrived at Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) at like 2:30 AM Atlantic Time so we were dead tired already, coupled with trying to find a taxi in the middle of the night and a 30 minute ride in the wet snowy road conditions, we just wanted to sleep right away.

When we entered the hotel entrance, there was a friendly staff at the concierge desk. Moment I provided him with my name, the notes in the computer already informed him that we will arrive late in the night to check-in, so he knew exactly what to do. The check-in process was flawless and smooth that within minutes, we got our key card and we were able to get to our hotel room.

Please note that this Hollis Halifax Hotel knew my manager and I were here in Halifax to cover the inaugural flights with Porter Airlines, so pretty much, we had no clue of what room they were going to provide us, especially we are easy going people and not picky. At the end of the day, we just want our comfy beds, clean sheets, a good hotel stay.

To our surprise, the hotel had upgraded us to a 1 bedroom suite with 2 queen beds + sofa bed with a harbour view. Luv the surprise! Thank you Hollis Halifax! You rock!

This hotel suite was super spacious and what I luv the most was that the bedroom section was separated from the living room section. It feels more like a condo unit than a cookie-cutter hotel room, so we luv it!

Yes, there was a living room section in this unit that offers a beverage station with a sink and fridge.

Then, there was a big L-shaped sofa to watch TV and relax.

There was an office space to do work. And then a high stool dining table that we converted it to be another working station. Before we arrived to the hotel, I was curious to see how me and my bro will have to figure out our working spaces. If there was only a bedroom, there would probably be only an office desk and one of us will have to work on our bed. But with this huge space, it was much appreciated that we can work comfortably with our respective working stations.

The bathroom was huge, bright and clean. It had everything!

There were 2 queen size beds with a closet and a big space with a big window to overlooking the waterfront.

From our suite, we could see the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, which is only 1 minute walk from our hotel. Furthermore, as I looked further, I could see a light house from the Georges Island.

Location! Location! Location!

Ok, this is a major KEY point that I have to complement about this hotel’s location! Oh mine, it’s perfectly located at the heart of Downtown Halifax. Everything is walkable. It’s located right beside a nice small grocery store as well as coffee shop. Then, it’s 3 minute walk towards the Waterfront Halifax that has all the newest restaurants such as Bar Sofia, Cafe Lunette, Drift, Ash + Salt, Darya and soon to be opened, ToriDori. Also, it’s only a short 3 minute walk from the hotel to the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

And at night, if you want to grab some drinks and enjoy a late night evening, the hotel is located 1 street down from the vibrant Barrington Street. I still recalled we ended our evening drinking at the Highwayman and we just walked like 2 minutes, and voila, we are back at our hotel. Trust me, in February, Halifax is relatively cold and can be freezing, thus, every minute of walking counts, so the less walk, the better! You will appreciate how close The Hollis Halifax from everything.

Everything was perfect. If you have to ask me to really have to pinpoint areas where it could improve, I could only named a few super minor ones. For example, one of the beds were situated so close to the closet that it was difficult for us to even get through to put our clothes on. And we would have preferred to have the closet outside the entrance area vs we have to take off our shoes to walk all the way in to the closet to put our clothes on.

Another thing that I would prefer the hotel to insert a coffee table and 2 chairs near the windows inside the bedroom. That was really a huge space that could have done some much more with it. I would luv to sit there and do social media work or read a magazine while sipping my coffee. Moreover, I would like to have somewhere to sit on so I can put on my sox before we head out. There was a bench but that was being used to put our carry-ons. Otherwise, everything was perfect during our stay here at The Hollis Halifax.

Moreover, I do have to complement the floor lobby. When we stepped out of our elevator, we were impressed with the wooden decor that made the hotel more alive. You know many other hotels, when you walked out of the elevator, it’s just a bit dark and all you saw are concrete walls and very typical boring layout. Not at this Hollis Halifax, it’s very nicely decorated.

Lastly, as I am writing about this MoVernie BLOG, I have to wonder, why is this hotel name so wordy and complicated? “The Hollis Halifax – a DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel”. I know they have to include all the branding, but it’s just far too long to type and no one says to another friend, “Hey, I am staying at The Hollis Halifax – a DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel”, said no one ever. I think “Hollis Halifax” is sufficed.
