Lei Yue Mun 鯉魚門 – BEST Place to get Seafood in Hong Kong [HONG KONG TRAVEL SERIES]

0

If you want to eat fresh seafood, then “Lei Yue Mun” 鯉魚門, Hong Kong is iconic for that purpose.

It’s a fisherman port where each day, the fishing boats goes out to the sea to fish and bring in the goods to the shore and supply to hundreds of seafood vendors and restaurants.

MoVernie FUN FACT: Why is it called Lei Yue Mun “鯉魚門”?  Lei Yue Mun 鯉魚門 translates to “carp door,” as the outline of the channel resembles the opened mouth of a carp. I did some more research, coz carp looks quite like the Japanese Koi, apparently, Koi is a type of Carp.

How It Works:

– You go to one of many seafood vendors in the area and choose the fresh seafood.

– They weighted out your goods and will ask you how you like each item to be cooked, it could be steam, fried, stir fry and other methods.

– You choose a restaurant and tell them to deliver the goods to the restaurant you want to dine at. The restaurant will charge you the price of the fresh seafood + cooking fee.

– Of course, locals can purchase the seafood and bring home to cook themselves.

– Ideally, you want to bring a local to go with you as they know which seafood vendors they shop often and negotiate a price so you don’t get ripped off and the locals will have one or two restaurants that they like to dine at.

If you don’t know which vendors to shop, just look for the fresh ingredients and go with your gut or you can hire a foodie private tour such as @okushu.tours who can help you arrange a foodie tour like this.
