Mill Pond Park – Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada [ONTARIO TRAVEL SERIES]

As I got a very nice ride this week with the 2021 MINI Cooper Countryman S ALL4, we decided to go for a joyride and get some fresh air outside in a new park that we have not visited before. As I googled the City of Richmond Hill website, Mill Pond Park intrigues us.

Mill Pond Park is a popular park offering a boardwalk, a gazebo & a playground around a pond with ice skating during the winter. This is a nice community as there is a washroom facility in one side of the street and there are 2 parking lots (one after another) to park. The parking lots aren’t super large, there are approximately 24 spots in the big lot and about 16 spots in the second lot, so I think you may have a hard time finding spots in the summer and when pandemic is over.

Anyhow, there are two cross walks where you can walk across and enjoy the pond. When we were there, the entire pond was frozen and people were allowed to skate on the pond. Staff from the City of Richmond Hill were on site to ensure there are physical distancing and also register people before they can skate on the pond.

From a glance, I could see people are abiding physical distancing. There were a few picnic tables on the ice for people to put their belongings and wear their skates. I must say, I have seen many TV commercials where people skate outdoors on natural frozen ice. For me to finally able to see people skating on frozen ice in front of my eyes was pretty cool.
