As I was attending the 2015 Detroit North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), one of the biggest highlights was the Ford Press Conference, announcing 3 all-new Ford vehicles in the Ford GT, Shelby GT350R and F-150 Raptor. Although these 3 vehicles were the highlights of the Press Conference and stole the Detroit NAIAS, there were two other Ford vehicles that accompanied these all-new 3 vehicles at the event. They were the Ford Focus ST and Ford Fiesta ST. Both were high performance, fine-tuned hot hatchbacks that were launched before the 2015 calendar year.

Although the focus were on the Ford GT and the other all-new products, I have not forgotten the important role these hatchbacks play in the Ford Performance team. If Ford GT is the father of the Ford Performance family, then Focus ST and Fiesta ST is like the son and daughter of the Ford Performance family, each attracting a different crowd of peeps. I have a thing for hot hatchbacks. They are nimble, stylish and hatchbacks just give the vehicle a different twist to it. A lot of peeps would associate hatchbacks as being fuel efficient, economical, relatively cheaper in price and driving from Point A to Point B. Most of the time, that is true BUT there are peeps out there such as myself who loves compact size hatchbacks that deliver superior power & performance and the nimble handling that brings along with the “fun to drive” factor that allow me to manoeuvre around the busy downtown core with ease.

At the Press Conference, while everyone was busy snapping pictures of the Ford GT and Shelby GT350R, my eyes focused (no pun intended) were all-over the Ford Focus ST. Personally, I would choose the bright yellow body paint on the Focus ST because it’s just me. I love colours that stand out, energetic and fashionably different. However, the signature Ford Blue Oval body paint looked quite good on the Focus ST as well. Let me tell you, any blue body paint, from aqua baby blue to electric neon blue or the blue oval paint that were seen in almost every car companies vehicles at the Detroit NAIAS looked great. Let me assure you that blue colour will be the “next hot thing” on cars. It will be the next popular colour trend in the next few years.

Under the hood, Focus ST is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that generates 252 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. That, my peeps, is a lot of engine power under the hood for a compact hatch. That’s the way I like it! I would love to give this ride a spin this summer when I go on my next road trip to cover events outside of Toronto.

For now, you can catch a glimpse of the engine sound of the Focus ST with the video that I captured when I was at Ford Press Conference at Detroit NAIAS. Check out the pictures as well. Next time when you see the big poster picture of the Ford GT standing in the middle and next to it were the Shelby GT350R and F-150 Raptor? You know the 4th and 5th car beside them were the Focus ST and Fiesta ST. All in the blue-oval family, delivering the Ford Performance for any one with different tastes and needs.
