For those die-hard loyal fans of Keung Kee 強記雞粥 Unionville, you will know that last month, this Chinese restaurant undergone a major renovation, shutting down for a month but now it’s back!
From the looks of the storefront though, it seems like they now only call themselves 強記 and not 強記雞粥.
It’s now open with a new storefront signage, new menu and more modern and renovated interior. First thing you will notice is more fish tanks putting in lobsters, crabs and other variety types of fishes.
When I glanced the new food menu, I noticed Keung Kee pretty much serves the same Chinese dishes from before, maybe a few new dishes and altering dishes, but overall, they serve pretty much the same type of dishes.
Now, as we all know, once a resto is renovated, they are going to jack up the prices and that’s no exception at Keung Kee, I noticed some of our favourite family dishes have increased in pricing. Although I have to admit that prior to the renovation, their dishes were relatively cheaper than other similar Chinese restaurants, so I don’t blame them for charging more. Most dishes increased by $1 to $3 more, so it’s still reasonable. I don’t mind paying more under the inflated society we are living in, as long as the portion of the dishes remains intact. I just hate it when a resto tries to increase the pricing while also reduce the dish portions.
I noticed at the storefront that they have an afternoon tea special menu. For $9.90 CDN + tax, you can choose a list of afternoon food dishes, ranging from oven baked spaghetti or fried chicken to beef brisket soup noodles to street style chan fun or stir fry beef noodles and more. If you want to pay $5 CDN more, you can choose from a short list of snack bites. Luckily, the complimentary beverage choices remain with the choice of ice tea, ice cream red bean and more. Usually, ice cream red bean is extra charge or not available at other places, but it’s famously available here at Keung Kee.
They also have lunch specials that include a soup and a beverage at reasonable price.
