Sushi Umi Omakase 海 is a Japanese restaurant offering Omakase. Umi 海 means “sea or ocean” in Japanese and Chinese, is located in Markham, Canada.
They are currently offering a $98 CDN + tax Omakase featuring appetizer, 10 pieces of freshly made sushi, a tamago (egg) sushi, a hand roll, a soup and a dessert. To me, that’s a very good value proposition. In Canadian standard and with inflation happening, $98 is especially attractive pricing and you get lots of value and delicious fresh food at Sushi Umi.
Speaking of the restaurant itself, the moment you walked in, it’s very calm and peaceful, the entrance area is nicely lit and bright and the music is so soothing. Moment you slide the door, a friendly staff greeted you and seated you to your seats. There are 12 spots per seating surrounding the sushi counter, so it’s very intimate and cozy as you get an up close and personal experience with the sushi chef and you get to see everything that the chef does in front of your eyes. It’s definitely an elevated high-end fine dining experience. It feels like you are actually in Japan (I know, coz I just got back from Japan and many Omakase restaurants in Japan have similar setup.
