TikTok Ban – Why is so many Americans TikTok Refugees are Downloading the Chinese Red Note App?

Unless you are living in a cave, otherwise, you probably must have heard about the potential TikTok Ban by the American Government most likely happening over this weekend on January 19, 2025. (unless the government is delaying the TikTok Ban).

This potential TikTok Ban is buzzing and bringing lots of fear to the massive 170 Million TikTok users from finding alternative apps to generate their content and trying to find ways to make an income.

TikTok is owned by a Singapore Company, yet it does have close ties and connections with Chinese companies and Chinese government as the U.S. Government claimed.

The U.S. Government wanting to ban TikTok in USA coz they fear the data are being breached and monitored by the Chinese government. They worry Chinese government will be able to use the data they retrieved from the American users and analyze them and to peek on what American’s private INFO and behaviour.

Thus, last year, the U.S. Government setup a deadline to force TikTok to sell its app to a non-Asian company. However, that mandate has so far, not made very far.

What’s next? In anticipation of losing their abilities to generate and share content, many Content Creators who use TikTok as a main source of klout and income are migrating to other apps. In particular, one of the most buzzed is the Chinese app called “Red Note“.

Red Note is owned by a Chinese company in China and it’s a super popular platform for Chinese people in China. In the past few days alone, many TikTokers signed up Red Note. They are trying to figure out how to read Chinese and connect with people in China.

In my opinion, this is ironic and contradict with the whole purpose of the TikTok ban in the 1st place. The U.S. Government wants to ban TikTok so that data and private INFO of the Americans are not being retrieved by the Chinese Government. But interestingly, TikTokers are flocking to sign up the Red Note app owned and controlled by Chinese. LOL How messed up is that?

Many TikTokers shared their reasoning for using Red Note. Many are using Red Note as a big rebel & big middle finger to the U.S. Government sending a message to them that “F*ck You! The more you don’t want our data to be controlled by Chinese, the more they are going to sign up the Chinese app”.

Moreover, TikTokers just need to find new platforms to make a living and building their following.

However, one aspect that I don’t think the TikTokers Refugees don’t know yet by using Red Note is that….the Chinese Government will filer and have many censorships and controlling what news, what content they allow the Red Note users to spread. Anyone with strong opinions or any anti-brand, anti-government will not be able to share their views and content via Red Note app.

Moreover, I was told by other Red Note Users that you can’t promote brand or endorse or sell products on Red Note. Thus, if TikTok Refugees main purpose is to make $ via Red Note, it will deem very difficult.

Now, we will see the fate of TikTok in the coming days. Will the U.S. Government really going to ban TikTok? Will Canada, my country follow suit and ban TikTok as well? How are the Chinese users living in China feel about the influx of non-Asian using their beloved Red Note app?
