The 14th Annual Discover America Canada Media Day was held on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at the Arcadian Croft, located at 401 Bay Street. I personally attended numerous events that had been hosted at this beautiful Arcadian Court. What I like about this venue space is how convenient it is as it’s located close to the subway. It is located across the Eaton Centre, which means the street car can drop you off right at the intersection of this Arcadian Court. And the view overlooking the Old City Hall and is marvelous. Last but not least, I luv food being catered by O&B.

It’s been a while we last had an in-person Discover America Canada Media Day. It was great for me to get back to the “new” normal seeing people in the industry, catching up with the people who works for the various destinations in the U.S. It’s refreshing to get to know and learn more about the latest updates about these destinations.

Discover America Canada Media Day consists of only U.S. Destinations who sent representatives to meet & greet with the media. For the most part, media such as myself will login into a special account that was specifically created for each media individual. We go online and researched all the participating U.S. Destinations who will be present and plan to meet with the media. I have to see if each destination has any timeslots to setup a meeting appointment to see me. Some destinations who are relatively more popular may have all the timeslots taken, so I got to act quick.

Anyhow, I was very satisfied with my appointments. I got to catch up with some familiar staff and destinations that I had worked with before. I also got to meet up with other destinations that I have never heard of or unfamiliar with what their destinations had to offer. So, I was happy that I got a good mix of destinations that I wanted to meet. Each media appointment lasts about 10-12 minutes, so it’s quite short, but they are all bunch in together, so I learned to utilize the timeslot wisely to maximize my experience and gather the most INFO and asking the right questions that helps me grasp about each destination. In the industry, they like to refer this type of media appointment as “speed dating”.

In particular, I was interested to learn more about The Palm Beaches and Destin-Fort Walton Beach, both are destinations that I never been and wanted to learn more.

After the media appointments, we were hosted for a beautiful lunch. There were many tables with a good mix of people from the destinations, media, organizers, board of directors and sponsors who mix and mingle and getting to know other people more via the lunch.

The lunch was beautiful with red and white wine being served, along with an appetizer, entrée and a lovely dessert platter to share among the table.

After the beautiful lunch, some of the sponsors who provided the guests with the lunch got to introduce themselves to the guests and talk about their businesses and brands.

Lastly, the main guest appearance was John Herrington, who was former a NASA Astronaut. He became the 1st Native American to fly in space. He shared with us about his adventures and stories of his space mission with us. It was super fascinating to hear what it’s like to be prepared, and blasting out into the space and space walk and repair and conduct many experiments and tasks in space.

All-in-all, it was a very productive day for me and I hope I can visit some of these destinations in the near future on Press Trips so that I can generate content, experience and explore and share my travel experiences with you all.

Special shoutout to Discover America Canada for having me.
