Alexander Keith’s Brewing Tour – Downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada [HALIFAX TRAVEL SERIES]

0

One of the highlights when visiting Halifax, Nova Scotia is to sign up for a Alexander Keith’s Brewery Tour.

This brewery tour can be purchased on its website and is quite an unique and interesting tour as you get to check out part of Keith’s house, get to try different Keith’s beer flavours that are made here on premise and you can ONLY try them during this tour.

Otherwise, you can’t try these unique small batch beer anywhere else. In other parts of Canada, you can only order and taste the Keith’s IPA as that’s the only beer being shipped outside of Nova Scotia. And that’s how my dad and I know about this Keith’s beer. We do like the IPA whenever we buy a case of 24 periodically at the Beer Store.

NOTE: Before the beginning of this tour, the tour guide has informed everyone NOT to take any videos of the tour but they can take as many pics as they like. Please respect the rules and abide the guidelines. We followed the rule and we only took pics.

Our group consists of about 12 people, so the size isn’t too large and manageable for the tour guide to guide us.

First thing first, we entered a room where they showed some of the past documents, paperwork and historic items that were once used at the brewery back in the days.

Then, everyone picks up a sample of the Keith’s stout that is only available during this tour.

MoVernie FUN FACT: Did you know that Alexander Keith is “Keith of all trades”? He is a mayor of Halifax, a business man, politician and other roles. He was that well-connected. He was a mayor of Halifax for a few terms with in between other hats that he wore to help build the communities.

Then, we walked thru each section of the brewery learning how the beer is made, it was quite educational.

Did you know the 4 ingredients that are needed to make beer?

You need:

  1. Water
  2. Malts
  3. Hops
  4. Yeast

What I like about this tour is that….the tour guide isn’t wordy or boring, they make each station concise, brief and to the point, which is what we like.

Last but not least, the staff are an enthusiastic bunch sharing their knowledge, expertise and some of them can even sing and play instruments to entertain the guests with iconic songs and music.

And of course, we got to try more samples before we listened to more great traditional music from these amazing people.

And it was a cool exit experience going through the tunnel where the fresh keg of barrels were rolled down the ramp to the delivery trucks.

Apparently, we were told that this tunnel is the ONLY one in Nova Scotia that is safe to walk around and operational after it’s been structurally renovated and preserved. Very neat!

Overall, other than the spectacular experience we visited at the Heineken Experience in Amsterdam. This Alexander Keith’s is one of our top 3 experience. I think the entertaining music, sampling Keith’s flavours not available anywhere else made this an unique and precious experience. We highly recommend you to buy tix to experience this special brewery tour. #MoVernieApproved
