Basil’s Market & Deli – Port Hope, Ontario, Canada [ONTARIO TRAVEL SERIES]

After spending a few fun hours at the Ganaraska Forest Centre on Maple Syrup Day, it’s time to get some lunch. Yes, our tummies are always 24/7 hungry for foodies, LOL!

We drove to this place called the “Basil’s Market & Deli“, a corner spot at a small plaza. As we walked in, there were tables located at the front of the eatery. Then, more booth tables at the back of the eatery. You could see refrigerators were situated on 1 side of the walls, serving pop drinks, beer, packaged food such as salad, lasagna and other food that you could buy on the go.

On the other side, it had stations to make fresh sandwiches and other deli food items. We were greeted by courteous staff. I ordered the Montreal smoked meat along with a creamy mushroom soup, along with a can of pop.

The smoked meat was on point and the creamy mushroom was hearty. This is not a fancy spot per say, but it gets the job done. And more importantly, it serves comfort food, a very cozy neighbourhood friendly “go to” spot. And if anyone doesn’t want to order sandwiches or soup, they can also order its “All Day Breakfast” menu.

Located beside the deli store, there is a parking lot that can take up to 10-12 vehicles. If it’s full, you can always park on the side local streets (check its parking sign though).
