Even though Chef 88 Elite Fine Dining 百樂軒海鮮酒家 has been in business for so many years, it was our 1st time that our family dined at this Chinese restaurant. We often drove by and we will see a jam packed crowd of people dining for dim sum outdoor in the patio area outside the restaurant.

We have a number of Chinese Restaurants in Markham that is closer to us that offers similar Chinese dinner combos that is the main reason it took this long for us to have a change of scenery to try here at Chef 88.

Our 1st impression when stepping inside the restaurant? It’s modern, upscale, spacious, clean and have cloth on the dining tables. When a restaurant uses cloth, you know it’s upscale. The Chinese tea leaves that they served here were also higher quality than other Chinese restaurants.

We decided to order a combo that comes with a number of dishes that’s good for 4-5 people. It’s Chef 88 August Chinese Combo deal of the month. Original price (as they claimed is $329 CDN + tax), for limited offer, it’s $188 CDN + tax.

Chef 88 August Chinese Combo Deal of the Month: (This combo is good for 4 – 5 people)

– Pumpkin seafood bisque
– Peking Duck (2 eats): 1st eat: Peking Duck taco and 2nd eat: Peking Duck Lettuce Wrap (pay extra $12)
– Braised Shiitake mushrooms + abalone + broccoli
– Ginger & Green Onions stir fry 1.5lb Lobster
– Steam green bass
– Sweet & Sour Pork slices
– Stir fry snow pea leaves
– Chinese desserts + pastries

Overall, we enjoyed our meal here at Chef 88. Excellent service from every staff (they refilled our iced water twice, which is very rare for Chinese restaurants). Everyone was very attentive and changed our plates.

In terms of the dishes, overall, they are up to par. They were tasty, flavourful and came out pipping hot. However, we did find some dishes were better and tastier elsewhere at restaurants we normally dined at. For example, the steam sea bass here at Chef 88, I felt the fish was a bit overcooked. I enjoyed the sweet & sour pork much more crispier, tastier and bigger portion at Double Lucky than here as they used sliced pork instead.

However, we do found the pumpkin squash seafood bisque here at Chef 88 top notch. It’s piping hot which we luv our soup pipping hot. There were tons of lobster meat and other seafood in the bisque. The bisque portion was amazing that was placed on a candle light warmer.

The Peking Duck here were very good. The staff took her time to carved out the Peking Duck in thin slices and in lots of slices. I luv how she carved out the duck meat front and then rotate to cut out more slices from the back. The taco were steamy hot and in thin slices yet able to hold on the sauce, the duck slices and cucumber and green onion slices. I was impressed!

Overall, we enjoyed our 1st dining experience here at Chef 88. Next time, we will come and try the outdoor Dim Sum experiences.
