One of the major perks when flying on Porter new jets (Embraer E195-E2) coming in-and-out of Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is the complimentary WIFI + In-Flight Entertainment. Other airlines offer these services for a fee.
There are 2 types of complimentary WIFI services that you can choose while on Porter flights:
1) Non-VIPorter Member:
In this case, you don’t have to register to be a VIPorter member. However, you will have to watch the commercials every 30 minutes in order to use the complimentary WIFI.
2) VIPorter Member:
If you don’t want the disruption to watch a TV commercial every 30 minutes in order to access free WIFI, then I recommend you to sign up for the free VIPorter membership. I am already a VIPorter member a while back so I just simply login in with my VIPorter credentials and I didn’t have to watch any TV commercials for the entire flight.
Honestly though, I didn’t really mind watching those TV commercials coz they were short and actually quite entertaining.
Quality of the Free WIFI:
After using the Free WIIF on Porter flight, I would say that the speed was adequate. It was alright and did its job. Is it super fast? Not really. It sometimes had hiccups or lack a bit but that could be due to the coordinates of the plane. Nevertheless, I could watch the movies and other shows most of the time using its complimentary WIFI.
As for working from my laptop, it was ok most of the time but sometimes I did encountered some lacking but not for long. I could receive and send out emails. I could use the Google Chrome on the internet. However, if you are trying to operate some specific programs, it maybe slow or not accessible at all. But overall, I would say the WIFI did its job.
