Downtown Toronto needs a decent Chinese restaurant and Congee Queen fills the void. In addition to one of my favourite Chinese restaurant in downtown called “Hong Shing“, this Congee Queen is also one of my “go-to” spot in the downtown area. Although the location is somewhat misleading by Congee Queen, when they marketed as if the resto is located right at Dundas Square, which isn’t truly accurate. It’s actually located 1.5 blocks north of Dundas Square, located across a pre-construction condo and beside a McDonalds.
The atmosphere is lively at this Congee Queen location as it’s always jam packed with line ups and crowds (although it’s usually is a short wait time). The interior decor is bright, modern but sometimes table are small to accommodate all of the dishes that we have ordered and other peeps sit close to you that you can hear their convo or they can hear us, but overall, it does the job and enjoy the food.
The food prices are relatively more pricey than other Richmond Hill/Markham/Scarborough Chinese restaurants but it’s downtown prices which is acceptable (if you view it in the downtown point of view).
Food portions are big and you will most likely request take out boxes and services are on and off, sometimes you get quick service and sometimes it takes forever for a server to serve you. Anyhow, food does come quick after you ordered.
If you visit Congee Queen, you know this place offers more than just congee. It serves a variety of food from soup, noodles, fried rice, BBQ meat, bubble tea, and gourmet snacks and traditional classic Chinese dishes.
We enjoy the sizzling beef with mushrooms served on a sizzling hot plate, wonton soup, hot & sour soup, spicy turnip, fried rice and variety of noodles are great here.
If you are around downtown, especially after shopping at around Eaton Centre or nearby and crave for Chinese food, Congee Queen a convenient spot for some comfort food.
