Dana Point – Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa – #IPW19 – Anaheim, California

IPW is a total package, it offers so many different wondeful experiences for a Travel Conference. And it’s no wonder it’s one of the largest travel conferences in North America. It’s a market place where tour operators, media, hotels, and buyers can meet and be productive and make things happen. There are live performances and mix and mingle parties throughout the conference to meet new people or catching up with existing connections. Plus, each year, the host city is different and we get to sign up on tours to check out what each destination and its surrounding communities has to offer for the IPW delegates such as myself.

Every year is no different, I always love to sign up for tours on the weekend prior to the media appointments so that I can sightsee and experience the surrounding areas. On Sunday, it’s a mandatory tour that the delegates have to sign up for. For me, I signed up for the Foodie Tour. Although Saturday tour is optional for the delegates, I had decided to signup for the Dana Point Tour. In this tour, we are going to explore Dana Point and I will be getting some much needed rejuvenation massage and spa at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa.

On the Saturday morning, we first gathered at the Anaheim Convention Center. We checked in for the tour, coz there were 10+ tours that’s happening that same day. After we checked in, we hopped on the shuttle bus. Travelling from the Anaheim Convention Center to Dana Point took approximately 30 minutes, it was quite an enjoyable ride to check out the houses and buildings along the way.

Where is Dana Point? Dana Point is located in the Southern part of California, about 30 minutes drive from Anaheim. It’s famous for its many beautiful beaches, natural landscape, shopping, recreational activities and luxurious resorts and spas. This is the paradize for locals and tourists to visit and relax.

The moment we arrived, we hopped on a trolley bus. Some of us were heading for the massage and spa while some went to check out other resorts with some going to play a round of golf. About 10 of us chose to check out the massage and spa. We were told that the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa is one of the best known resorts in California and around the world and I could see why. It’s situated close to the ocean with lots of open space. It’s luxurious and beautiful.

MoVernie Funny Story: As we walked up the slope to get to the entrance, I noticed there were staff setting up cabanas and tents and food at the front yard of the resort. I talked to another travel writer and said, “Wow! That’s awesome that people are getting married in the outdoor setting with a nice ocean view”. Guess what? It turned out, the lovely setup was for us! We had our massage and spa here in the outdoor setting. Furthermore, there were food and cocktail stations for us as well! That was incredible.

As we went to the main lobby, we were greeted by the executives from the resort and gave us a welcome drink. They gave us a brief introduction about the Laguna Cliffs Dana Point and what we were going to experience at the front yard.

As we walked out to the front yard, we were given instructions of how everything works. There were a number of massage stations. Some stations focused on the entire body, some on the shoulder and upper body and there was a station that uses state-of-the-art technology to work on our face, giving us a glowing finish. In case you wonder, we didn’t have to take off our clothes or change, we simply lie down on the massage bed and they did massage just like that, which was fine with me.

We spent about 2 hours there, in-and-out of different stations. I tried everything and it was C’est La Vie! I love massages as it refreshes and rejuvenates my body. The best part? High quality food and cocktails were served. There were tacos and poke. In particular, the made-to-order pasta station was amazing. I enjoyed my Alfredo pasta with lots of toppings including my favourite shrimps.

Being pampered before the start of IPW19 was an amazing choice as I got to stay fresh and energize for all the media appointments, fun activities and mix & mingle parties throughout the entire conference. Next time, if I ever visit Anaheim again, I would like to stay for a few nights to really experience Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa plus checking out what Dana Point has to offer.

The Dana Point Tour and the incredible IPW19 experience were provided by the U.S. Travel Association’s IPW and Visit Dana Point. However, as always, the opinions expressed in this post is entirely my own.
