Post IPW 18 Tour – Durango, Colorado: Mild to Wild Rafting & Jeep Tours

0

As part of the Post IPW 18 Tour, we visited the city of Durango, Colorado. Durango is a small city located in southwestern Colorado, near the New Mexico border. I was told that back in the 19th-century, Durango is a hub for many railroad steam trains that passed many mountains and canyons.

Durango still have a railroad museum to display all the historic and classic train related items. But in modern times, Durango offers more than just railroad trains, you can go for a water rafting or jeep tours outdoor activities. During this Post IPW 18 Tour, we were given the option to either do water rafting or jeep tour up in the La Plata mountains. I didn’t feel like getting wet during this trip, so I opted for the jeep mountain tour offered by Mild to Wild Rafting & Jeep company.

First, we hopped on a normal bus driven by our tour guide who gave us a history about this region and what we were expected to see when we were on the jeep tour. Safety comes first as the jeep tour climbs up the La Plata mountains which has quite an elevation, so it’s important you are physically healthy and can withstand high altitude as some may have high altitude sickness.

After about a 30 minute drive, our tour guide asked us to get off the bus and switched on an open air jeep ride. You could see a metal barricade that wrapped around the jeep. It’s an outdoor layout which you could feel the fresh air, the breeze and could see the surroundings very easily. The jeep could sit about 15 people with 3 or 4 rows of benches.

During this La Plata mountain jeep tour, we were expected to see majestic mountain peaks, waterfalls, various landscapes in the nearby surroundings, wild plants and vegetation. And if we are lucky, we could see wild animals such as deer or bears.
