(First Drive) 2019 Mazda CX-5 Turbo – More Power & Torque

0

It’s February and it’s one of the coldest months in Toronto. Icy rain, wet, tons of snow throughout this month. So, I have decided to test drive the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Turbo for a week, celebrating the Family Day Long Weekend and covering the Canadian International Auto Show. The AWD system should come in handy for any winter conditions.

This is the first look at this CX-5. In case you wonder, what’s new for this 2019 model year? From a glance , the exterior looks basically the same from the previous years. However, the main jewel is underneath the engine bay. The Mazda PR team informed me that a more powerful engine is available on the CX-5 for the first time. It’s the Skyactiv-G turbo charged gasoline engine that pumps out 228 hp with a whopping 310 lbs ft of torque. That’s a powerful engine. The standard CX-5 models remain to be powered by the Skyactiv engine that pumps out a well-balanced, respectable 187 hp with 186 lbs ft of torque.

But no one will ever complain about having too much horsepower, thus, the turbo engine with 228 hp is definitely a great engine addition to give the potential customers more options. This turbo engine is carried over from the bigger SUV Mazda CX-9 and the engine power is adequate for the bigger SUV. So imagine having the same powertrain underneath the relatively smaller CX-5, the CX-5 should be powerful and quick. We will find out.

Mazda Canada gave us the signature red body paint (best red in the business) with a black leather interior.

Stay tuned for my upcoming more in-depth review of my driving experience with the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Turbo at a later time.

Special thanks to Mazda Canada for hooking our team up with this awesome ride. MoVernie team is wishing everyone a safe and fun Family Day.

If you are heading to the Canadian International Auto Show, be sure to check out the Mazda exhibits, lots of cool rides are there waiting to say HI to you!
