Fresh Off Markham 敗走麥城 is a Canadian movie filmed in Markham and Toronto.

The movie was filmed in 3 individual sub-plots that have connections among each other and were filmed by Asian Canadian filmmakers.

@freshoffmarkham presents the complexities and challenges Asian immigrants face when they set foot in Canada. Throughout the movie, you will see many Markham places that Asians are very familiar with.

With no budget or subsidiary support by the municipalities or investors, these filmmakers and actors still decided to move forward to create this film to share their story telling with the audiences.

Their visions are to have more opportunities for Asian filmmakers as well as more Asian representation in the entertainment industry and being able to tell their stories.

They are hoping more movie goers come out to watch #FreshOffMarkham as movie theatres such as Cineplex will gauge tix sales and determine if they should prolong playing this movie at the movie theatres.

Personally, whether this indie film is good or bad, it’s beyond the point for me, coz I immigrated from Hong Kong as a kid with my family and raised all my life in Markham, so lots of the scenes in the movie were familiar to me. It brought back the memories of me growing up in Markham. This hits home to me and close to my heart.

It was a pleasure meeting some of these actors and directors and share our Markham life stories.
