Wild Sun: Rescue – Rehabilitate – Release

This evening, we got invited to attend a very meaningful fundraiser that was held at the iconic venue space called “El Mocambo”. If you are old enough, you would recognize the name “El Mocambo” as it’s the venue back in March 1977 when the famous Rolling Stones came to perform. Just imagine Mack Jagger and his band performed at this very same spot!

After some major renovations and restoration, the El Mocambo has a new look. There are multi-floors and each floor had a refreshed look. The owner maintained the vibes and themes of the new venue space but yet enhanced it and give it a special look. I personally luv it very much! I highly recommend you to check out the washroom as it’s a super photogenic spot to take a selfie at the entrance with the neon light sign.

Back to the main purpose of why we were here at the fundraiser. My buddy, who works closely with the organizer told me about this charitable event as he is buddies with one of the organizers. The organizers quickly found sponsors and have bands who donated their time to support this great cause.

So, who are the Wild Sun Rescue Center? It’s a rescue mission that is based in Costa Rica. Their main focus is to save wildlife animals who are being injured or harmed by the human beings. I honestly didn’t know that the electricity lines and poles being used in Costa Rica don’t have materials that stop burning or electrocute the animals who are crawling and running on them. Many monkeys who walks along the electricity lines are being burned or seriously injured. One of the mission for Wild Sun Rescue Center is to save these animals and also find materials to replace these deadly electric lines or to wrap around them in the country to reduce wild animals from dying.

So…..at the entrance of El Mocambo, you could see two monkey mascots who were monkey around to catch everyone’s attention. You can pose photo with them.

Once we were inside, we decided to explore downstairs. There were a tons of items being auction off to raise money. And beer samples from Goodlot Farmstead Brewing Co. to try at the bar.

Before we walked to the main floor where the live music performances were located, we decided to check out the washroom. Once we walked downstairs, opened the door, there were mirrors everywhere to take selfies. There were neon light sign perfect for more photos. And the iconic famous people photos were also perfect for more photos.

Once we walked back up to the main floor, there was charcuterie board, cheese and snack bites.

The organizers came on the stage and thanked the supporters and attendees for their generosity.

Then, the owners of Wild Sun Rescue Center actually flew from Costa Rica to attend this fundraiser to show us more about their non-profit organization and how the money being raised will be distributed and allocated to save these wildlife animals their rescue center in Costa Rica.

Moreover, Jorge Vargas, the Costa Rica Consulate who is based in Toronto, introduced himself and told the guest a little bit about Costa Rica. He said, “if you been to Costa Rica, good for you. But you haven’t been, I know you will be visiting there very soon. If you have any questions, please come and talk to me“. After the speech, I had decided to introduce myself to Jorge and told him how much I would luv to be on a Press Trip to explore and generate content to Costa Rica. He is a cool guy with a good sense of humour and really have a passion and knowledge about this country.

And of course, the main feature attractions, two bands who dedicated their time and effort to perform in front of the jam packed audience. The Strumbellas from Lindsay, Ontario, which many of you have heard of them started off the evening with this big hit “Spirits“. That surely fire up the crowd as many of us started to sing along with the band.

The band also told us how fitting it is that they have a song called “Wild Sun” (scroll down to watch the video) which they dedicated the song to the Wild Sun Rescue Center.

And last but not least, the Mercury Messiah finished the night with their performances.
