Hawk Lake Log Chute – Algonquin Highlands, Ontario, Canada [ONTARIO TRAVEL SERIES]

0

Welcome to the Hawk Lake Log Chute!

These types of man-made chutes were built back in the days to carry logs over rough rivers and flow to the sawmill located downstream.

Back in the late 1800s, there were thousands of these log chutes everywhere around the province. But many of these were all gone now.

There has been a log chute on this site since 1861 and this chute is now one of the rare ones that remains in Ontario. Thus, it’s extra precious and this historic site gives us a sense of what it’s like about the logging industry and the workers who worked hard to make a living back then.

Special shoutout to Leann & Dave, owners of The Pines of Boshkung Cottage Resort, who told us about this hidden gem and it was worth the visit, especially the drive was breathtaking when our Mazda CX-9 drove on the snowy road and seeing the water flowing downstream in the river near the road. It was picture perfect!
