A popular bar located right at the heart of Roseau. It’s super close to the harbour, so if you are visiting Dominica via a cruise ship, once you docked off the ship, perhaps this is a great spot to grab a drink and a quick bite.
What’s unique about this Hi-Rise Beach Bar is that it has sand everywhere at the bar. I guess it wants to make you feel like you are on sandy beach. I took my sox and shoes off and just to get a feel of the beach while dining.
To start off, we ordered drinks. There was a funny situation I wanted to share. Apparently, on the island, there is a drink that will increase the sexual desire of a human being. It’s an “aphrodisiac” drink. As I was looking at the cocktail menu, I was only looking at the pictures and thought the drink “I Want You” looks promising. Then the server gave me a little wink and a little smirk and asked me, “Young man! Do you have a girl friend tonight with you?”. I was thinking in my head, “WTF? What does having a girl friend has to do with ordering this drink?”.
That’s when she explained that the “I Want You” cocktail is an aphrodisiac drink that consists of ingredients that will increase my sexual desire. Since we are on a press trip and we are all guys, of course we aren’t going to order that, but that was quite some crazy Inspector Gadget moment for me. LOL. I ended up ordering something else.
MoVernie Fun FACT: The word “Aphrodisiac” is a substance that increases sexual desire. So, if you don’t want that, don’t order it or else you may go hard all night. LOL. But of course, if you have a companion and want to go all out, by all means. I have never tried a drink with Aphrodisiac so I can’t tell you if it works or not. Perhaps you will have to let me know if it does its job.
So, I ordered a lobster crepe, but later on, the server told us that they ran out of crepes and asked if they could replace it with a sesame bun. I was picky, so I was fine with the swtich.
NOTE: Since this Hi-Rise Beach Bar is a super popular spot for drinks and food, I was told that this place can get super crowded and service may be slow. So, I recommend you not to take too much time from ordering. See what you like, quickly put your food order in or else, it could take a long while.
