Hotel Room – The Westin Nova Scotian – Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada [HALIFAX TRAVEL SERIES]

Welcome to our hotel room here at The Westin Nova Scotian, an iconic hotel with lots of history in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

During this hotel stay, I enjoyed sitting at the bay windows in my hotel room at Westin Nova Scotian while overlooking the streets. When I was a kid, I luv looking out the windows and watching cars and buses went by. And at the highest floor in the hotel, at the 11th floor, there were no other tall buildings nearby that would obstruct my view. I got a total clear view of this beautiful Downtown Halifax.

Moreover, it’s very rare for a hotel to offer up a nice bay window area that allows me to enjoy the view and chill and read a magazine. I normally don’t read a hardcopy magazine anymore, but it was very neat to read the Halifax Visitor Guide provided by Discover Halifax. It’s a good read to see where they recommend us to drink and eat while in Halifax. In particular, there was an article in the magazine that offers recommendations to visit local craft breweries in Halifax. We took the suggestion and walked just 4 minutes from Westin Nova Scotian and we tried the beer flight at the Garrison Brewing. And on another night, we decided to check out the Good Robot Brewing located on the north side of Halifax.

Everything is so walkable by staying here at the Westin Nova Scotian. There is literally a nice park across the hotel, offering a playground, swings and slides for the young children.

There is a Loblaws grocery store that we can buy groceries, beverages, snacks, etc. We also walked across the street to get some Vietnamese food at Pho Maniac, we got our comfort food fix, especially the broth from the pho warm us up.

In the morning, we walked down a block to get some nice fresh coffee at Wired Monk. In fact, we luv the drip coffee so much that we bought a few bags of the coffee back to Toronto to enjoy (they will grind for you if you don’t have a grinding machine at home).

Furthermore, we visited Pier 21 which is just about a 8-minute walk from the hotel. Pier 21 is the Canadian Museum of Immigration. I am an immigrant myself so I learned a lot by walking thru the exhibitions, the history and back in the days, Halifax acted as a major hub for immigrants to arrive overseas before they got dispersed into various Canadian provinces to began their new lives.

And if you don’t feel like walking outside to eat & drink and just wanted to stay inside the hotel for a whole day, there are tons of things you can do here at the hotel. You can grab breakfast, lunch, happy hour, dinner here at the Seaport. When we were there, this place was hopp’in all day long. Peeps like to gather at the main lobby or at Seaport mingling with other people.

And….this hotel is located right beside the VIA Rail train station, they have a direct indoor walkway from the train station that you can walk right into the hotel lobby without the need to freeze outside in the cold. And the train station has lots of history and definitely Instagrammable for good photos.

Now, let’s dive right back about our hotel. I really like the looks of the lobby. Beautiful sofa and furniture plus gorgeous chandeliers with high ceilings.

Lots of history in this hotel. For example, we noticed there was a slot for guests to put in regular mail that will flow down into some special chamber. Although I don’t know who sends out snail mail or postcards anymore but it’s cool that this hotel maintain that sense of tradition to collect regular mail like this. It’s pretty cool.

About our room, it was away from the elevator, just the way we like it so we can get our peace and quiet. Moreover, we found the rooms and the hallway have good insulation as we hardly hear anyone slamming doors hard or cleaners cleaning rooms. It’s relatively very relaxing and peaceful.

The carpet in the room and the hallway were nice and thick and comfy to walk on. Inside our hotel room, we had everything that we needed. There was an in-room safe to put our valuables. The bathroom had nice light fixtures and nice hot water for me to take a nice bath.

Most importantly, the beds were comfy with good support and amazing pillows to sleep on. The large flat screen TV was perfect to tug myself in bed and enjoy some movies. Everything in the room was great. I slept very well every night here.

Perhaps the only minor feedback for me was that I prefer the bathroom tiles to be a little bit more updated and more stylish instead of the boring bland beige tiles that didn’t really fit in with the modern light fixtures mirror in the bathroom. Other than that, I enjoy everything this room has to offer.

If I visit Halifax, staying at Westin Nova Scotian would definitely be one of my top choices.
