KFCourt – PopUp Outdoor Basketball Court with Buckets – Bentway (Underneath Gardiner Expressway)

When you watch your favourite Raptors team play on TV, you often hear the commentators say, “Buckets! He drains another bucket to give his team a 11 point lead”.

Well….KFC Canada takes the “Buckets” to the next level by replacing the nets with KFC buckets. This outdoor popup basketball court is located at Bentway which is right underneath the Gardiner Expressway (across Fort York building and the big parking lot). This is where the actions at.

It opens to the public daily until the end of February 22, 2023. There is a warm up station (heat lamp to warm you up). Complimentary water and Pepsi beverages were also provided.

KFC Canada believes that Canadians luv playing basketball all season long, it doesn’t matter if it’s sub zero outside, peeps will hoop.

They provide you with the basketballs to shoot some hoops and this Thursday, February 9, Raptors Gary Trent Jr. @gtrentjr is going to make a special appearance from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM. You sure don’t want to miss you meeting him.

It’s definitely an unique cool experience watching the basketball goes thru the buckets. Even the sound of the ball bounce in the buckets are different than from a normal net.

MoVernie TIP: Dress warmly and appropriately as you are playing hoops outside the cold, so check the weather report before you show up. There are time slots that are open to public to hoop. But there are also timeslots where people can register and sign up and donate $5 per team to reserve some time to play ball.

Also check @kfc_canada on social media before you head to KFCourt, coz when it’s at extreme weather, for the safety of everyone, they close the court. So, you don’t want to travel and wasted your time and effort.

Staff told me that on the weekends, DJ will be spinning music, there will be samples of KFC for people to try.

Overall, I thought it was a cool idea to create this popup for people to enjoy some recreational outdoor fun. I do have the following suggestions though, they need more signage near the Bentway so peeps know the KFCourt is located at the end of the Bentway (perhaps provide people with the Bentway #, as you walk along, there are signage such as Bentway #63, let people know so they know where to go). More signage would be nice to give directions to the KFCourt.

Moreover, I think it would be cool if they serve hot chocolate or coffee or tea so people can keep warm.

Better yet, have a food truck or let people actually pay to order a full KFC meal so they can enjoy some lunches and watch people play. I do, however, this popup KFCourt would be more suited for the summer, when everyone is out and about and nice and warm to play hoops.

These are just some of my suggestions to how to enhance and maximize the experience.

Thank you to KFC Canada for giving me this cool #BucketsAreLife vest, it’s comfy and keep my hands warm in the pocket. Plus the pocket is so big that it can store my bottle of water. LOL

MoVernie FUN FACT: So…as soon as the staff gave me this lovely vest, I asked him what’s #11 represent? Is it Kyrie Irving? He laughed. He said “#11” represents the 11 spices and herbs that are being used to make the KFC fried chicken. Very interesting. I never knew!
