Mardi Gras Museum of Imperial Calcasieu – Lake Charles, Louisiana

This Mardi Gras Museum in Lake Charles is unique and has the biggest collection of costumes being showcased in the world. I was told that there are about 290+ costumes on display with some other costumes stored in a special archive spot.

I found it fascinating that the mannequin that are being used to showcase the costumes are customized to reflect the facial features of the real person who once wore these costumes, very neat isn’t it?

All the costumes are very beautiful and it allows us to travel back in time to see the various colours, materials, theme that each Krewe uses annually. I also learn the meaning of “Krewe“, which is a social organization that puts on a parade or ball for the Carnival season, and it’s best known for its association with Mardi Gras.

MoVernie FUN FACT: Did you know…that the number of Krewe groups determine who is the biggest Mardi Gras in the world. New Orleans is ranked #1 and Lake Charles is ranked #2.

The Mardi Gras Museum is definitely worth checking out as it gives you an unique experience that you wouldn’t be able to find in other places in the world.
