McDonald’s McCrispy Chicken Sandwich Was Disappointing – You Can Skip It!

So……I first noticed that McDonald’s is launching a new burger named “McCrispy” via its Instagram advertisements. From its marketing standpoint and the picture showing the McCrispy, it looks promising.

Thus, yesterday, I decided to visit a McDonalds and give it a try!

There are 2 versions of the McCrispy. The standard ones comes a chicken patty, lettuce and special mayo sauce and comes with a potato bun at $5.99 CDN + tax. The 2nd version called “Bacon Deluxe” that comes with all the aforementioned ingredients + bacon + sliced tomatoes at $7.99 CDN + tax.

I opted for the standard ones as I don’t want to invest $7.99 on a bacon deluxe if the standard McCrispy isn’t very good.

Anyhow, moment I opened the package, I noticed the buns had a hint of blackness, it looked a bit burnt. There was a gushing amount of white mayo sauce which I was ok about. The size of the sandwich looked similar to the McChicken.

I took a bite on the McCrispy and I was disappointed. From the picture, I thought the chicken patty would be crispy and crunchy but turned out the meat wasn’t providing both textures. It felt like an oven baked chicken that was soft. I was hoping this new McCrispy would challenge the likes of the crispy chicken sandwich from Popeyes or KFC. But it turned out the taste and texture were more aligned with the McDonald’s Junior Chicken sandwich. And as a personal preference, I prefer sesame bun over the smooth potato bun.

Here comes to my MoVernie questions. What was McDonalds thinking? What’s the point of calling it “McCrispy” when it isn’t crispy at all? What’s the point of launching another sandwich when it’s similar to a Junior Chicken Sandwhich? It doesn’t make any sense to me.

Anyhow, of course, everyone has different taste buds and preferences. Perhaps you enjoy it more than I do. Luckily, I didn’t spend on the more pricier bacon deluxe which would cost me $7.99 CDN + tax.

If you ask me, you can skip this McCrispy and don’t bother trying it. You are better off ordering the Junior Chicken Sandwich or order the iconic McChicken instead. Or just try the Popeyes or KFC crispy chicken sandwiches.

If you order McDonald’s McCrispy, let me know your thoughts!

  1. I had the same experience. It was a flat , dark brown, overcooked chicken “puck” . Mine had little sauce , almost no lettuce and the bun was also burned . It felt like a frozen dinner quality item. And like you I am baffled why mcdonalds would release such an inferior an nondescript item.. and to add salt to the wound , when I tried to order extra lettuce they wanted to charge me 50 cents. Needless to say I passed ..

    • Thanks for your reply Paul and that you felt the disappointment with the McDonald’s McCrispy. I really thought they would come up with something better to combat the Popeyes and KFC fried chicken sandwiches but they didn’t.
