Mile One Centre & St. John’s Convention Centre – St. John’s, Newfoundland

As part of the Press Trip to cover the grand opening of the brand new Maple Leaf Lounge at the St. John’s International Airport (YYT), Air Canada provided me with the hotel stay at the Delta Hotels by Marriott St. John’s Conference Centre.

The hotel is located in the heart of the downtown St. John’s so it’s basically located very close to everything. Since it’s located right beside the Mile One Centre, home of the St. John’s Edge (basketball) and the St. John’s Convention Centre, I had decided to make a stroll and check out these buildings around my hotel.

Mile One Centre – It is an indoor arena and entertainment venue located in downtown St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is home of the St. John’s Edge (basketball) and St. John’s Growlers (hockey) and it also hosted sports events such as skating and curling. Moreover, boat show and concerts.

In order for me to explore what St. John’s, Newfoundland has to offer, this press trip from the flights to accommodation were provided by Air Canada. However, my visit to the Mile One Centre & St. John’s Convention Centre and the opinions expressed in this post are entirely my own.

MoVernie FUN FACT: Surprisingly, during the same time when I was on this press trip to visit St. John’s, Newfoundland, a former NBA player, Glen “Big Baby” Davis announced his signing with the St.John’s Edge to play basketball. Big Baby is trying to restore his basketball career with the Edge, hoping he can stay focus and redevelop his basketball skills. He hope by playing basketball, it will help him stay out of trouble off-court. Honestly, St. John’s isn’t a location that many basketball player will choose to have a career there, so to be able to be in the same destination at the same time, I thought it was pretty cool. I wish I could have purchase a tix and watch him play but unfortunately, with a tight itinerary, I wasn’t able to. However, I do wish Big Baby Davis all the best with his career and hopefully, it works out for him in St. John’s. Most importantly, he is happy and be able to stay out of trouble, that’s all I care about him the most.
