About an hour ago, my followers informed me that the New York Knicks has fired head coach Tom Thibodeau.
Quite honestly, this is not a surprise to me as I feel the Knicks were underachieve with Thibodeau as the head coach. I know it sounds weird, despite the Knicks have made the playoffs 4 out of 5 seasons under Tom’s watch but it’s sexy on paper with all the star power and big names but in reality, I felt the team aren’t utilizing its true potential.
As much as I like the players on the roster, they won’t go far as long as Thibodeau is the head coach of the Knicks and it’s interesting for me to say this as I told my family and my buddies just a few days ago about this.
Thibodeau burns his starters with so many playing time, and not willing to expand the use of his bench players, this has been ongoing over and over again during regular seasons and into the playoffs.
By the time in the crunch time in the 4th quarter, the starters have no energy left to compete to close out the games. That’s my issue with Thibodeau.
Moreover, this is a weird NBA season where anything is possible and no one is safe. Just look at the Memphis Grizzlies, they fired Taylor Jenkins when the team was doing great and gearing towards the playoffs. Then, Mike Malone of the Denver Nuggets was fired only a few games entering the playoffs.
The Knicks truly need a new voice. Here is the thing, if the Knicks are fully healthy and still can’t stop the Indiana Pacers, imagine what the Knicks can’t do if their main players were injured? I feel with a few minor tweaks here and there and a new voice of a new coach, the Knicks could win a championship especially there isn’t a dominant team in the Eastern Conference, even the Boston Celtics were kicked out early.
What are your thoughts about the firing of Tom Thibodeau?
