Hello Nori,

What a welcome addition in the Financial District at 70 York Street, Toronto, Canada. We dined here at Hello Nori during Happy Hour on a Thursday, wasn’t that busy yet but it picked up as more patrons come in and dine. They have a great Happy Hour beverage selections from the half price beer, sake, cocktails to wine.

MoVernie FUN FACT: Nori in Japanese means an edible seaweed eaten either fresh or dried. Hence the seaweed handrolls as their specialty here at Hello Nori.

The entire team were excellent and friendly. In particular, our server Taiyo was super courteous, explaining to us the daily specials and its pricing and made us felt very welcoming.

We really like the interior design, it has a spacious food preparation area, clean washrooms. It’s about 24 seating with natural sunlight penetrating thru the big bay windows. Only slight dislike were the high wooden stools with no back support, not the most ideal comfort seating but I figure they also don’t want you to be too comfy and you stay there for too long either. LOL

We ordered the sashimi platter at $48 CDN + tax, featuring 15 pcs of fresh fishes and squids. Personally, I think it’s a great platter to share especially on a date night. However, it’s definitely overpriced at only 15 pcs and although the raw fishes are fresh, it’s pretty typical salmon, tuna, squid that you found in other Japanese sushi restaurant that serves at much cheaper price. Although this sashimi platter did offered Hokkaido scallops (2 pcs) but still $48 is a bit steep.

Hand roll are made fresh with crispy seaweed and warm cozy sushi rice. Handroll was a bit on a small size but they do specializes in hand rolls that they want you to order a set of 4 or 5 to fill your tummy or order a la carte.

The aburi torched sushi was delish.

Overall, I think it’s a good place for a quick lunch or a casual dining experience to dine before a concert or Raptors/Leafs/Jays game based on its convenient location. But the happy hour is definitely where the deal and good value at with beverage options. They don’t have any happy hour food options but half price alcoholic beverages are attractive for us to come back!

Next time, we would like to try its handroll set and in particular, the snow crab handroll or the truffle lobster handroll will be my picks to try.
