This past Saturday, Shawn Mendes made a surprise appearance performing at Ed Sheehan’s live concert at the Rogers Centre and fans were from all over the world were ecstatic coz Shawn haven’t performed for about a year eversince he cancelled his world tour due to mental wellness.
Interestingly, my Instagram popped a throwback notification of my selfie with Shawn as it was 1-year ago we happened to be on the same flight flying from Philadelphia back to Toronto.
This was a few days after he announced his tour cancellation.
Not many peeps recognized him at the airport gate as he was super low key and was only accompanied by his parents, 3 buddies and a guy with a guitar box.
He was very humble and genuinely allowed me to snap this pic with him.
My biggest memory of this encounter was after we landed at Toronto Pearson Airport, Shawn and his parents who sat at row 2 on the plane could have left ahead of everyone. But instead, they waited for his 3 other buddies and the friend with the guitar box (who sat last row on the plane) before they walked together and waited at the end of the line at the border security control.
Without his assistants or handlers to guide them where to go, Shawn lined up at the peasant line with his families and friends at the security control.
After 10 mins of lining up, Shawn finally decided to ask an airport staff to see if there is a special line for people such as his status.
He came back and told his parents and friends to follow him to a special line.
It was cool to see a young man not sure what to do, figured things out and came and got his crew with him. He took care of his peeps.
I wish Shawn all da best and take his time to look after his mental wellness.
