Windsor Arms Hotel – Sunday Brunch Buffet

Windsor Arms Hotel - Sunday Brunch Buffet
Everyone knows that
the Windsor Arms Hotel is famous for its afternoon tea. But did you know that
Windsor Arms Hotel also have an amazing Sunday Brunch Buffet? During the
Thanksgiving Sunday, my MoVernie crew & I got invited by Windsor Arms Hotel
to check out its Sunday Brunch Buffet.
It was a beautiful
Sunday afternoon driving along the Yorkville area. Warm sunny weather, quite
possibly the last warm weekend before the cold temperature comes (sorry to
remind you that winter is coming). After we parked our car, we walked to the
Windsor Arms Hotel. Moment we got close to the entrance, a friendly doorman
opened the door for us.
As we walked into the
lobby, near the counter, there was a friendly hostess who greeted us. She
checked my reservation name and guided us into the Courtyard Cafe. There were
already patrons in a number of tables, not too packed but not emptied, just
perfect crowd size.

Honestly, on a Sunday
Funday, I prefer to relax, chill and not be in some super crowded or noisy
spot. So the Courtyard Cafe was perfect as it provided a cozy, relaxing and chilling
vibe. The Courtyard Cafe was located adjacent to the lobby, you will notice the
elegant area in this restaurant and the beautifully decor and artwork gave this
area the warm textures reminiscent of the late romantic era. What I like about
this Courtyard was how spacious it was. High ceiling that stretched at least 3
floors high. I felt the openness of it, the pillar around the area was
beautifully crafted that connected the roof top windows above. You could see
the sunlight shining through.
As we sat down on the
table, with the comfy chairs, nicely set of cutleries, and clean and tidy table
cloth, we were ready to get some food. Our server, Anthony welcomed our arrival
and explained to us how the Sunday Brunch Buffet works. He said that Sunday
Brunch was always available in the past but what’s so different for the Sunday
Brunch Buffet right now is the major upgrade in the food selections.
Before, the Sunday
Brunch Buffet was more simple and basic. Now, you get seafood that ranges from
freshly shuck oysters, to Alaskan crab legs, smoked salmon and much much more.
Also, in the past, the brunch buffet was separated by 2 specific seating. One
early seating around 11:00 am and the 2nd setting was around 1:00 pm. Although
the current last seating is still 1:00 pm, but you can book a table anytime in
between, so the time is more flexible depending on our mood and readiness of us
getting out of our beds on a Sunday Funday.

Anthony told us the
Sunday Brunch Buffet for an adult is $65/person + tax. Children under 12 years
of age is $40/person + tax. Holiday prices will vary, so it’s best you probe
the holiday price when you make your reservations.
Anthony started off
everyone with a glass of Mimosa (half champagne with half chilled fruit juice,
usually orange juice). In this case, orange juice was served. Anthony told us
the Mimosa were unlimited. That’s a bargain already because if you order a
Mimosa alone in other places, it ranges from $10-13 a glass, talking about a
good price with unlimited Mimosa. Also, Anthony informed us that Benedict
(made-to-order) were also available. He started off by placing an order of 3
different types of Benedict for us to sample. They were 1) Pemeal bacon
Benedict; 2) Smoke salmon Benedict and 3) Spinach Benedict.

So, we decided to go
on an adventure and checked out the buffet selections. All the food stations
were located at the front of the restaurant, with the dessert table located
right at the centre of the food stations. There was no way anyone would miss
the dessert table. On the left side of the area, there were a fresh bakery
section, fresh cheese and cold cuts section and a variety of salad section.
Then there was a fruit chocolate fondue fountain consistently flowing out the
liquid chocolate. I will save that for last when I have consumed the cooked
food. Then, there was the seafood station, fresh shucking oysters, big Alaskan
crab legs, smoked smoke salmon, baked salmon and jumbo shrimps.

In the cooked food
section, there were baked fish, short braised beef ribs, croquette, mixed vegetables,
lamb curry with steam rice. On the other side, a friendly staff will cut the
roast beef or roasted lamb for you. If you want omelette, the staff at the
omelette station can make the omelette on the spot for you with over 8-10
toppings for you to choose from. Brunch isn’t the same without sausages and
bacon and of course, they had plenty of them waiting for our consumption.

Quite honestly, I
normally like my eggs Sunny side up and not really a fan of Benedict, mainly because
most places made the Benedict super big in proportion and the sauce made the
dish super heavy and the sauce usually would be too sour. And for me, usually
on a Sunday, I don’t want to go crazy. But the Benedict at the Courtyard Cafe,
they were delicious. Egg was perfect inside, the sauce was perfect, not too
sour and not too overpowering, which I was impressed. All 3 Benedict were
delicious but if I have to choose, I love the classic pemeal bacon Benedict.
Love the meat texture coupled with the smooth egg and sauce. One suggestion I
would like to make is that if they can made-to-order not just Benedict but also
scrambled eggs or sunny side up or over easy, that would be awesome!

Seafood was super
fresh and it’s amazing the variety of seafood they provided. More importantly,
you could taste the high quality of the seafood. The crab legs meat were fresh,
meat were good, you could taste every thread of the crab meat. Shrimps were
jumbo sized, very bouncy and responsive. Smoked salmon were deliciously fresh
with good colour to the texture. Oysters, I was told were shipped from New
Brunswick, super fresh and creamy. The only two minor things that I think it
can be improved was the better use of the dipping sauce for the jumbo shrimps.
I know the sauce was made in-house which was a major plus (as many restaurants
wouldn’t make their own dipping sauce). But for some reason, the dipping sauce
was so smooth that when I dipped the shrimp into it, the shrimp couldn’t pick
up any of the sauce. It doesn’t matter how many times I re-dip the shrimp into
the sauce, it just didn’t stick, so I couldn’t taste anything but the shrimp
itself. The freshly oysters were nicely shucked and placed on a nice plate. I
would prefer they placed a thin layer of chilled ice underneath the oyster
shells so when patrons go and pick up the oysters, it’s freshly chilled and not
at room temperature.
Otherwise, the seafood station was my favourite section.

Cooked food was also
incredible. I highly recommend you to try its short braised beef ribs. The meat
and sauce were wonderfully mixed well together and the meat just fell off the
bone and melts in your mouth. Super tasty! The lamb curry with steam rice was
addictive. Curry isn’t super spicy so you don’t have to worry about it being
super spicy.
You can choose lean or
fatty section of the roast beef. It’s made to perfection with the meat being super
tender and juicy. The sausages were made in-house as the meat was freshly made
and you could see the irregular shape of each sausage, I like that, it’s authentically
REAL! Bacon strips were very crispy, which I prefer!

As for the cheese and
cold cuts, I would prefer more variety of cheese and there were no Prosciutto
as I love them dearly. But otherwise, everything was perfect. There were so
many selections of pastries and dessert. And that’s because Windsor Arms has a
talented pastry chef. No wonder they are so famous for its Afternoon Tea. Last
but not least, I love the chocolate fondue, it’s a great way to end the Sunday
Brunch Buffet. There was pineapple, watermelon, papaya and honeydew. You don’t
find papaya being used as part of the ingredient in many other places, this was
a very rare item but a nice idea. I love bananas so I would love to see the
chef to insert bananas in the near future for the chocolate fondue mix.
Windsor Arms Hotel - Sunday Brunch Buffet
All-in-all, I highly
recommend Windsor Arms Sunday Brunch Buffet to my peeps and followers. For $65
+ tax for an adult, it’s a reasonable price, especially; it’s located in the
Yorkville area with such a beautiful setting in the Courtyard Cafe. Unlimited
Mimosa, made-to-order Benedict, large selection of fresh seafood, short braised
beef ribs and roast beef and roast lamb station. Last but not least, the desserts
centre table and chocolate fondue? That’s a long list of high quality of food
items for such a reasonable price.
Windsor Arms Hotel - Sunday Brunch Buffet
To me, the price was
reasonable, more importantly, it is the total package. Nice restaurant decor
and setting. Lovely comfy chairs and table and cutlery sets. Excellent service.
And let me tell you, there are a lot of places that offers buffet, but most of
those places, it has long lineups of people and people were lining up as if
they were starving for weeks. You know what I mean, where they will pick up all
the oysters and left you empty handed.
http://windsorarmshotel.com/
I don’t like that type
of “Hunger Games” style of buffet setting. For me, if I pay for my
meal, the food should be there waiting for me to pick them up onto my plate.
Not the other way around when I have to hustle and body check people to get to
my food. Not at Windsor Arms, the food were plenty and fresh that I can get up
anytime I want from my seat and I walked at a relaxing pace to pickup my
seafood without worrying peeps clean up all the food stations. Now that factor
alone is worthwhile for you to visit the Windsor Arms Sunday Brunch Buffet.
The ONLY thing you
need to know is that I highly recommend you to walk around the beautiful stores
at Yorkville, to walk off the delicious food in your stomach so you can burn
some calories off and be able to drive home and enjoy the rest of the Sunday
Funday!
