I luv hotpot. My family luv hotpot. My friends luv hotpot. Hotpot is a perfect way to warm you up especially during the cold winter days. The boiling broth, the steamy coming out of the pot, it’s perfect way to catch up with our loved ones. I guess that’s why I luv hotpot so much.
I had seen on Instagram of this Ye Skewers Hot Pot place but I just don’t visit Scarborough enough to experience it. Until today, we decided to check it out for a Sunday Funday lunch.
This place is similar to many other Chinese hotpot, where it’s all-you-can-eat (AYCE), you choose the broth base and the staff told me the price of AYCE is the same whether it’s lunch or dinner, which is slightly different than other hot pot places.
Most other hotpot places will serve you food on plates. What makes this Ye Skewers place unique is that…most of the ingredients are being setup in skewers. You simply just put them into your broth vs meat being lost in the broth. That’s an unique dining experience.
Also, you can choose your ingredients at a food station, the skewers range from veggies, meat balls, seafood to meat skewers. You can help yourself and you can choose whatever you want since each individual has their own mini hotpot.
There is also the sauce station to create your own individual dipping sauce.
Moreover, they have some ready to eat snack station featuring some of the commonly popular Chinese snack bites, fruits and after you are finished, they provide you with complementary vanilla soft serve.
When we went, it was on a Sunday Funday, so it’s $32.99 CDN + tax per person. On weekdays, it’s $30.99 CDN + tax. Broth ranges from $7.99 to $11.99 CDN, depending on your taste buds. There are mushroom mild broth, pork bone mild broth to green spicy pepper broth or super spicy peppery broth. That’s the beauty of having individual pots as you may like spicy while another person prefers mild.
This restaurant is modern, hip, stylish and very upbeat style. Moreover, we were impressed with the excellent service by the friendly staff. They were very attentive, explained to us how the hotpot works, the pricing and they were frequently came over to ask if everything is ok. They topped up the water often as well as fill up the broth for our pot.
I also have to emphasize how fresh the beef and lamb were, they were good quality, with a good mix of fat and meat in between and the thickness of the beef was amazing. We prefer the cut to be a lil bit thick vs super thin at other places.
Check out our final results with all these skewer sticks, meaning we did quite well with our food intake during this visit.
We will definitely come back and bring in more friends to join us next time.
