During my Washington DC Press Trip, I visited Hiya Izakaya which is located inside Love, Makoto.
Love, Makoto is a trendy newly opened Japanese Food Hall offering a variety of food options. Dear Sushi offers Omakase sushi tasting experience. Beloved BBQ offers Japanese BBQ experience where you can grill your own meat and vegetables on the sizzling plate.
There is also Love On The Run for those who just want to sit down for a quite bite. Or you can order to go and bring it home or to your office.
As for me, I went to Hiya Izakaya, located at the back of the Love, MaKoto Food Hall. I really like the space as there was a section for big groups to sit on the low tables and chairs.
And on the other end, people can sit on low tables and chairs while overlooking the clear glass where the chefs cooked up the made-to-order skewers.
I opted to sit at the lovely bar area. It has a very nice semi-circular bar counter with high stools that wraps around the counter. Bartenders serve drinks and snack bites here.
I came at the right time as it was Happy Hour! Hiya Izakaya is from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM daily.
I first ordered Dekopon Daisy, a refreshing cocktails consisted of joven tequila, ume plum, yuzua. I luv it when they served the beer in a frozen glass. That’s a nice touch! This cocktail was $5 USD, pretty good deal!
I ordered a bunch of snacks that was on the Happy Hour menu. The prices ranged from $5 USD.
Here’s what I ordered.
Tsukune – chicken meatball (left of the plate)
Momo – chicken thigh (right of the plate)
Tebasaki – chicken wing
On the 2nd round, I ordered a nice ice cold beer (Sapporo (14 oz draft) at $5 USD. Love it!
Tuna crispy rice (2 pc)
I luv the chicken wings so much that I ordered a 2nd order of the chicken wings. Nice flavourful, not too salty, not oily, just perfectly grilled.
