If you luv seafood and lives in Toronto, the chances are….you have heard of the popular Fishman Lobster Clubhouse which is located in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. But if you don’t live in Toronto, you may still have seen or heard of Fishman Lobster Clubhouse for its tall, Mt. Lobster dish on YouTube or Travel videos!
Well….due to popular demand and the fact that many peeps luv seafood and want more seafood, Fishman Lobster Clubhouse has opened a 2nd location in the Woodbine and Denison area (beside Diana’s Seafood) called “Jumbo Lobster”.
In addition to the famous seafood dish, this Jumbo Lobster Seafood Restaurant offers dim sum during mornings and afternoons plus they offer suckling pig as a dish that isn’t available at Fishman Lobster Clubhouse.
However, after visiting Jumbo Lobster for the 2nd time, we would like to conclude that….we pretty much prefer the original location, which is Fishman Lobster Clubhouse, STILL the undisputed champion!
We prefer the original location at Fishman Lobster Clubhouse coz we felt the original place may have better equipment, cooking utensils, better culinary team. The “Wok Chi” at Fishman Lobster Clubhouse is better, more flavourful, more tasty, more consistent and you could tell the lobster or king crab legs are being cooked under high temperature heat and even after serving on plates for a while, you can still feel the heat and hot temperature coming out of these seafood dishes.
However, at the Jumbo Lobster, we could sense the temperature isn’t as hot as it cools down much quicker after the seafood dishes are put in the plate. Perhaps is the cooking tools, equipment are still relatively new that they need to break in for a while before they can find the ideal temperature and find the right calibration to other factors.
However, overall, the dinner at Jumbo Lobster is still pretty good. I am super happy when they serve up the jelly pudding vs the stale macarons that they normally used.
The lobster fried rice isn’t the greatest, for some reason, I enjoyed the fried rice at the Fishman Lobster Clubhouse. That location has fried rice that is grain by grain, it uses chopped Chinese broccoli and carrots vs here at Jumbo Lobster, rice are more dry, blend, and they used stale dry peas and corn that isn’t as fresh.
And I miss the fried mini fishes that comes with the fried Mt. Lobster. They went with the fries which isn’t my cup of tea. I think they should provide the patrons with options. If some don’t like mini fishes, then they can have fries but don’t just take the mini fishes option away coz others prefer fries. And that’s the moment of truth.
In summary, if you want suckling pig or Jumbo Lobster is a closer location to your home, and you feel a modern, marble walls, nicer chandeliers are something more important to you, then Jumbo Lobster would be your choice.
But if you care more about the quality of the food, the wok chi and the better culinary dining experience and don’t really care as much of the decor and interior designs, then Fishman Lobster Clubhouse is the “Undisputed Champion” of seafood in Toronto!
