Kura Revolving Sushi Bar – Washington, DC, USA [WASHINGTON DC TRAVEL SERIES]

0

During my Washington DC Press Trip, I stayed at the Riggs Hotel, located at the Downtown DC area. The hotel was pretty much walkable to many places such as the White House, museums and the Chinatown.

One night, I was Googling where to grab dinner, and Kura Revolving Sushi Bar popped up. I had revolving sushi before, in both Japan and in Toronto. But I do have to say that Toronto doesn’t have many revolving sushi restaurants as it seemed there isn’t enough traffic for in-and-out patrons to make the concept work in Toronto.

Anyhow, with just a short 8-minute walk from the Riggs Hotel, I had arrived at Kura Revolving Sushi Bar. There was quite a number of people lining up to grab a table and waiting for their turns. However, since I was by myself, I was soon guided to sit at one of the spot without the need to wait.

There was a counter that accommodated about 6 people, I sat at the far end of the counter, which I enjoyed very much.

How It Works:

  • All dishes on the revolving conveyor belt were $3.55 USD + tax, when you see a dish you like, you take it off the belt and indulge. Once you are done, you place the plate into a slot right in front of your station and that’s how the computer system calculate the number of dishes you had ordered.
  • Now, if there are dishes that are not available on the conveyor belt, you can use the screen above you to choose dishes or beverages and there is an upper train track who will special deliver your special order. For example, I special order my beer and the staff came over and delivered to me. I also ordered miso soup, fried calamari and the train on the track stopped right in front of my station, it’s super fast & easy to operate.

Most often, people perceive conveyor belt or revolving sushi restaurant as fast but relatively lower quality, I beg to differ, Kura impressed me with delicious food items, they were made to order and when the food was delivered to me, they were hot in temperature and fresh to eat.

Overall, I enjoyed the Kura Revolving Sushi Bar as it was fast, fun and efficient. I got food and beverage very quickly. I got to try many different items as each dish is made like tapas, not super big portion so I can try a number of dishes.

The price was reasonable. You do, however, have to be disciplined and be rational. Coz if you just keep taking dishes that you see on the conveyor belt, you soon be overload or you are so full that you couldn’t intake more dishes. And if you are not rational about it, the bill could add up.

It’s a fun concept and you don’t have to travel to Japan in order to experience conveyor belt. You can get it in Washington DC.
