(REVIEW) My Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong, China to Narita Airport, Japan

My last visit to Japan was back in November 2018, after this pandemic, it’s nice to be returning to Japan and explore and experience more of this country.

We are flying with Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong, China to Tokyo, Japan via Narita International Airport (NRT). Remember, there are 2 major airports to fly in-and-out of Tokyo, either via Narita International Airport (NRT) or Haneda International Airport (HND).

The flight from Hong Kong to Tokyo takes approximately 3.5 hours. Our flight was on time and we could see our plane from the waiting area. The flight was on time and there wasn’t much delay. However, there was already a long lineup of passengers lining up to board the plane, with the line stretching very long.

Anyhow, there were 2 zones, one line was for priority boarding, the business and first class with the second zone for economy class.

When it was our turn to board, the staff were pleasant to deal with and they were friendly.

As we boarded on the plane, we were also greeted with another group of friendly staff. This was quite a big plane with 3 seats on the left side, 4 seats in the middle and 3 seats on the right side.

I would say the width of my economy seat was typical like any other airlines. But it was comfy and ok. There were plenty of space on the head bin to store my carry-on.

One thing I did noticed was that…during the lineup outside the gates, majority of the people don’t have carry-ons but just a purse, or a small backpack, I don’t know if Asian travel differently as when I travel in North American cities, majority of the people will have a massive carry-on. Not many people would travel light.

Every passenger received a blanket, headphones and I noticed there were 2 multi-level of trays. The first upper tray had a tray that can hold a bottle or can of beer. The bottom tray can stretch out to form a larger dining tray table. Usually, I only see one tray, so it’s nice to see an upper and a lower tray.

There was a nice hardcopy of the Cathy Pacific magazine. I luv reading hard copy magazine and learn more about various destinations or restaruants/bars.

I checked the infotainment, the screen was displayed in Chinese, you can choose other languages such as English.

There were tons of movies, including new Cantonese Hong Kong movies and other English movies/shows.

Moreover, you can also check where the plane is flying over on a geographical map.

And personally, I found it fascinating when there was a channel that showed a camera showing the passengers “LIVE” of the plane taking off, flying in the air and landing. This was the 1st time that I seen a channel showing the plane taking off or landing, which was pretty cool!

About an hour after we took off, the friendly staff came over to serve us beverages and snack. We got a small bag of peanuts (which is also an interesting snack coz in North American airlines, they won’t be serving peanuts coz there are passengers who are allergic to anything with nuts).

Wine and beer were complimentary. I chose a can of Asahi beer. It was nice to flying a flight with complimentary alcoholic drinks and snacks.

What’s interesting was…after serving us with a beverage and snack, 30 minutes later, they began to serve us lunch.

The lunch was nicely organized and coordinated.

It included a dinner roll.

Cold soba noodles with wasabi with a separate container that holds the soy sauce, it was delish and refreshing. I am just impressed that the attention-to-detail where they included soy sauce but separate to avoid noodles being soggy and in case some individuals don’t like soy sauce or for health reasons.

Then, I asked for braised beef with rice and veggies. It was steamy hot and delicious.

I believed another choice was chicken with rice.

Moreover, there was a fruit cup that consisted of cubes of watermelon, dragon fruits and grapes.

And the beverage cart came back again and I asked for another can of Asahi beer.

I wanted to emphasize the cutlery. Many airlines nowadays either provide plastic recycle cutlery or wooden cutlery. But Cathay Pacific provided us with silver metal cutlery. I was shocked, the metal cutlery elevated the overall dining experience. It had a good feel to it when lifting the food. Great job Cathy Pacific!

Just as you thought the meal was completed, not yet, the staff came over and served us dessert. There were a variety of Häagen-Dazs and I chose the peach-raspberry flavour.

After the meal, the staff worked very hard to retrieve the trays and meal containers.

I decided to take a nice nap.

Also, the washrooms were readily available located throughout the plane. Usually, it wasn’t a long wait to use one of them. The washroom is typical airline size, it’s tight but reasonable. It’s nicely LIT and this plane offered hand soap, hand sanitizer and hand lotion. They got you cover and provided lots of paper towels and tissues.

Overall, this was an unbelievable flying experience with Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong to Tokyo. Cathay Pacific does offer flight options flying from Hong Kong to Vancouver or Toronto so in the near future, I would like to try Cathay Pacific for a longer flight and test out more of its food & beverages and the seating arrangement.

MoVernie QUESTION: Have you ever flew with Cathay Pacific? From where to where? Do you have a good or bad experience? Let me know your thoughts.
